On August 1st, new laws took effect that represent an expansion of housing protections offered to victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking in Minnesota. A court order to get out of a lease early, and the need to pay an extra month's rent, are no longer necessary.

Ron Elwood, supervising attorney with the Legal Services Advocacy Project, enlisted the help of the Minnesota Multi-Family Housing Association (representing landlords and property managers across the state) to encourage legal changes that are mutually beneficial to renters seeking safety, and their landlords.
