Minnesota Disability Law Center Issues Investigative Report

A report on the use of restraints and seclusion at a St. Peter psychiatric hospital was issued earlier this week by the Minnesota Disability Law Center (MDLC) of Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid. MDLC’s report found the state-run hospital violated new policies intended to eliminate the use of patient restraint and seclusion when there was no imminent risk of harm. On its findings, Pamela Hoopes, director of MDLC, said, “One of the things that was both interesting and heartening was the patients' desire to participate in changing things in a positive direction. The patients that we interviewed and from records that we saw would like to be in a more hopeful and positive treatment environment." Read the MPR News article.
