SMRLS Featured in Attorney at Law Magazine

In its June feature, Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services: A Beacon of Civil Justice,Attorney at Law Magazine shares reflections on SMRLS’ legacy and ongoing innovations.

What became a beacon of civil legal justice started as a volunteer initiative over 100 years ago, and today serves residents in 33 southern Minnesota counties. Jessie Nicholson, executive director of SMRLS, spoke to Attorney at Law about her own history with the program, how SMRLS is leveraging technology, the legal issues clients continue to face, and the recent, historic funding increase for civil legal aid from the state.

“The most exciting thing now is that we are poised to bring in new talent — the next generation of lawyers who want to do this work, who have the passion to do this work. We have some very passionate non-lawyer staff as well. All this new talent will take us to the next level as a successful provider of civil legal services,” Nicholson said. Read the full story.
